CSM 3.3.1 Now Available

The latest version of the Black Legion army list is now available for download in The Vault. Aside from the changes made in 3.3 there are a few minor changes to the list
  • Helltalon formations are now slightly more expensive
  • Deamon Prince weapons now have new names
  • Unit entries reformatted and now match format for other armies
  • Sorcerer, Icon Bearer and Champion of Khorne are now listed as Characters
  • Added some background fluff
  • Decimator Cannon now has Ignore Cover again
There are no major changes to the list and all the changes made in version 3.2 of the list should now be included in this version

Many thanks to Audrey for her help in finding all the typos I made

Warmaster Daemons in Epic

One question that gets asked quite a bit, since the recent changes to the CSM army list, is why the list doesn't officially include daemon units that are available in the Warmaster range. Since they have Daemonettes on Riding Beasts, Screamers and even Horrors why not just use those figs instead of removing the units from the official army list?

There are several reasons but primary for me, at least, is the difference in scale. Warmaster is a 10mm game and Epic is a 6mm game. As such the daemons produced for Warmaster are much larger than the Epic Chaos figures.

Audrey kindly took some photographs to show the difference.

First some Warmaster daemonettes next to some Epic CSM troops

The daemonettes are close to twice the size of the CSM troops.

The comparison is even worse when you look at the mounted daemonettes

The mounted daemonettes are giants compared to the Epic figures.

Now if this isn't an issue for you as a player then you can certainly go get the Warmaster figures and use them in your games. The stats for them will be included in an appendix in the next version (3.3.1) of the CSM army list. But I don't think it is fair to a) make players buy figures outside of the Epic product line to get core troops and b) certainly don't want to return to the Space Marine days when the game had daemonic units that were grossly out of scale to everything else in the game.

CSM 3.3.1

I have received a copy of the previous version of the Chaos Space Marine list from Jervis so I am currently in the process of updating the old version of 3.3 to include the changes in 3.2.

As a totally unrelated aside I would just like to point out that I utterly and totally hate MS Word and hope that the people responsible for writing it spend an eternity in Hell.

OGBM version 1.6

Version 1.6 of the OGBM list has been sent to Keith for inclusion in the Vault.

Very minor changes to the list.
  • Made Big Mek Power Field upgrade D3 Power Fields instead of one
  • Changed Gargant limitation in army to be based on Gargant Mobs and Stompa Mobs
  • Changed Stompa upgrades to +65 from +75 points
  • Tweaks and changes to Big Mek Kustom Gargant Weapons
  • Renamed Bommer to Big Bommer
I was originally going to change the formation limitation in the army to be based on a percentage of points but after creating some sample armies I couldn't find a percentage that didn't either recreate the original problem (not enough support formations) or made for an army that had, IMO, too many support formations. So I have changed the limitation so that Stompa Mobs now allow for more support formations as well.

The other major change was some tweaks to some of the Big Mek Kustom Gargant Weapons. Specifically:
  • Deth Kannon is now Titan Killer 2
  • Ripper Fist is now 2 x AP4+/AT5+
  • Mega Lobba has range increased to 75cm
  • Gatling Kannon is now 6x AP4+/AT5+
Those are all the changes that I feel comfortable doing to the weapons for now. I'd like to do graduated tweaks to the weapons to see the effect and then possibly make more changes based on feedback.

3.3 errors

Due to some errors in file versioning (ie I used the 3.1 version of the CSM list to create the 3.3 version and not the 3.2 version) the current version of the CSM list in the Vault does not contain any of the changes to teh CSM list that were added for 3.2

I am working to get the Word files for the 3.2 version of the army and as soon as I do I will be re-editing the CSM army list and reposting a "correct" version in the Vault.

Sorry for the inconvenience
